Capital Campaign

For organizations entering into a capital campaign, MajorGiving.com offers a specialized service, Capital Campaign Coach. We recognize that not all capital campaigns are alike. That is why we do not use boilerplate solutions. We believe that most non-profit organizations have the ability to run their campaigns as staff and volunteer-driven efforts, and we help nonprofits strategize their time and resources accordingly. This translates into a huge savings for your organization and a streamlined effort. Does this eliminate the hard work and planning of a capital campaign? Absolutely not. But we make your campaigns more efficient, guaranteeing that you spend the maximum time with your donors!

Case Study

Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum, Winchester, Virginia

This $9 million capital campaign, now in progress, has all of the essential ingredients of a successful capital campaign: a solid case for support, a knowledgeable board of directors that is committed to the campaign morally and financially, as well as a steering committee comprised of community leaders whose collective financial commitment to the campaign goal is $1 million. The City of Winchester has donated land in a prominent park, the Federal Government has awarded them with a $1 million grant, a foundation provided over $300,000 in seed money, and the State of Virginia has given them $450,000 for this daring new children’s facility.

Currently housed in a small storefront, the new Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum will be one of only five of our nation’s “platinum” green buildings—a designation awarded by The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System. In June 2005, the design for the new building received an award of merit for pre-construction design excellence from the American Institute of Architects. All of this recognition promises to attract international attention and ensure the Museum a prominent leadership role in the area of environmental education.

MajorGiving.com is working with the museum to plan the campaign calendar, refine their case for support, create collateral materials, and train the board, steering committee, and other volunteers to hold donor visits. MajorGiving.com is helping to develop and maintain a campaign timeline and serves in an ongoing coaching and consulting role for the activities of the campaign.
